EURO-Titan’s highlight of the month : we participated in the annual conference of the European Powder Metallurgy Association, Glasgow Scotland, UK.

We shared our project, results and discussed in Round Tables in 2 clustering events : Organized by 1. RESQTOOL (Jakub SZALATKIEWICZ), Phoenix Surowce) and BLOOM (Marco KOMAC, INRAW) and 2. EPMA and the REPTIS project (Bruno VICENZI). 

EPMA, EURO-Titan’s advisor, in particular Bruno Vicenzi, is thanked for this initiative to have the opportunity to enlarge our network and cooperation on European CRM production. 
It was a great conference at SEC, Glasgow.

We learned from and discussed with our representatives from our Horizon sister projects, international organizations and industrial partners: Horizon projects : REESOURCE (Duygu YILMAZ, IFE), MAGELLAN (Alexandre DAMIENS, Orano), START (Filip NEVE, LNEG), REPTIS (Bruno VICENZI, EPMA), PERSOPHONE (Marco, KOMAC, INRAW) ; EIT Raw Materials (Nabeel MANCHERI), IONIC Technology) ; Fraunhofer IFA Dresden (Thomas WEISSGRAEBER), RESQTOOL (Jakub SZALATKIEWICZ)

Euro-Titan was represented by SAISLAB (Dr. Rosanna BABAGIANNOU) and CATURA Geoprojects (Dr. Beate ORBERGER). Rosanna Babagiannou gave a presentation particularly focussed on EURO-TITAN’s data platform, integrated AI and machine learning approach for inline, real-time process optimization, while Beate Orberger pitched the project concepts and process steps.

We also participated in the round table on « Powder Metallurgy and Critical Raw Materials » and « CRM Act and 2030 : where are we?  ».

Raw Material Conference 2023, Athens

How can EU Critical Raw Materials extraction from waste or low-grade ore compete with Asian production?

This session will give delegates the opportunity to learn about and discuss with industrial experts. Five experts from SME, large and small enterprises, and consultancies are invited. They represent important economic sectors, scandium and related alloys, gallium, aluminium (bauxite), titanium dioxide, and magnesium. Each metal has its specific supply and market issues, driven by the choice of technologies, related economic and financial matters.

The important titanium and aluminium industries may unlock by-products from residual waste streams or secondary products. Magnesium, and other critical metals can be recovered with innovative extraction processes reducing energy consumption, and C-footprint. Critical raw materials can and will thus be available in Europe for refiners and end-users. What are the challenges, strength, opportunities, and threats for a European metal transformation and production?

What are European solutions to be competitive with Asian produced critical metals.
